My Approach to Dog Training
I take a balanced approach to dog training - which means I believe in teaching a dog both “yes” and “no”. With a balanced approach, we reward good behavior to increase the frequency while using fair corrections and redirections to decrease unwanted behavior.
The term “balanced” reflects the use of a variety of tools and techniques. The goal is to meet the unique needs of each dog. Together, we will find what works best for you and your dog while building a trusting relationship and maintaining kindness, consistency, and clear communication.

Dog Psychology
Dogs communicate differently from humans, so I focus on connecting with them in ways that respect and align with their nature.
-
Direction Over Correction
Corrections have their place, but I strongly believe you can't correct a dog without first showing them what you want. Let's start by giving clear direction.
-
Mindset Over Obedience
Too often, dogs know tricks but lose control at the sight of a squirrel. I focus on mindset first, helping dogs stay calm and balanced throughout the day.
-
Relationship Focused
Nothing is more beautiful than a strong human-canine bond. I prioritize clear communication, enriching activities, and healthy boundaries to build lasting relationships.
-
Exercise, Structure, Affection
In that order—because many dogs lack physical, mental, and emotional fulfillment, leading to behavior issues. Plus, we often give human-style affection without considering its effect on their mindset.

Human End of the Leash
Dog training is as much about the human as the dog. Lasting change starts with us showing up and leading from our end of the leash.
